PHILLIP ISLAND, ESCENARIO DE DOS TÍTULOS MUNDIALES

Sí, esta temporada 2012, el circuito de Phillip Island ha sido el escenario elegido en el que se han conquistado los dos títulos del Mundial de Motociclismo que restaban por confirmarse, el de Moto2 y el de MotoGP, calcando la misma situación que en 2010 vivió el circuito de Sepang, aunque en esta ocasión con diferentes protagonistas. Además, este año el Gran Premio de Australia ha batido el récord de asistencia, pasando por sus instalaciones más de 122.000 personas durante todo el fin de semana y por encima de las 53.000 el domingo de carreras, unas cifras motivadas por ser la última oportunidad de ver en acción a su ídolo local, Casey Stoner, pues a una vez termine la actual campaña en el circuito de Cheste, el piloto australiano abandonará el Mundial, tal y como anunció a principios de temporada en el Gran Premio de Francia. Por tanto, y junto con esta motivación, todos los asistentes al circuito han podido asistir a la consecución de dos títulos mundiales.

GP AUSTRALIA (RACE): STATEMENTS OF THE MOTOGP RIDERS

CASEY STONER (1st – Repsol Honda): «It was very important for me to win a race before the end of the season and I’m really happy to do it here, at home, in front of the huge crowd. My biggest worry was to be fit again and competitive for this race, but we managed it and we had something over everyone else and this was the perfect way to say goodbye here. I was pretty nervous going into the race but the conditions were fantastic for a Phillip Island race! When I knew I only had a few laps left and a big lead, I was watching the crowd and it was fantastic to see everyone cheering me on, it made me very proud to be Australian. My biggest congratulations to Jorge, he’s ridden an almost perfect season finishing 1st or 2nd when possible and I’m just disappointed not to be in the championship fight, but I made my own mistakes and this is how things go. My condolences to Dani – I saw him crash out in front of me – but he had to push today and go out and win the race to keep his championship hopes alive. It was a small mistake, easy to do in this corner and I feel very sorry for him. Thanks to everyone for coming down and showing their support!»

GP AUSTRALIA (CARRERA): DECLARACIONES DE LOS PILOTOS DE MOTOGP

CASEY STONER (1º – Repsol Honda): «Era muy importante para mí ganar una carrera antes de acabar la temporada y estoy muy contento de haberlo hecho aquí, en mi casa y delante de esta gran afición. Lo que más me preocupaba era estar recuperado y ser competitivo para esta carrera y hemos conseguido estar un paso por delante de los demás y ha sido perfecto para poder despedirme de aquí. Estaba nervioso antes de la salida, pero las condiciones han sido fantásticas para Phillip Island! Cuando he visto que quedaban pocas vueltas y tenía una buena ventaja, he podido fijarme en la gente y ha sido increíble ver cómo me animaban, me han hecho sentir orgulloso de ser australiano. A Jorge, muchas felicidades, ha hecho una temporada casi perfecta, acabando primero o segundo en cada carrera. Sólo siento no haber podido estar en la lucha por el título, pero he cometido algunos errores y las cosas han salido así. Y lo siento por Dani, le he visto caerse delante de mí, pero hoy tenía que arriesgar, salir e intentar ganar la carrera para seguir teniendo opciones al campeonato. Ha sido un pequeño error, fácil de cometer en esa curva, y lo siento mucho por él. Gracias a todos por venir al circuito y animarme como lo habéis hecho!«.

GP AUSTRALIA (2º GIORNO): DICHIARAZIONI DEI PILOTI DELLA MOTOGP

CASEY STONER (1º – 1’29″623 / Repsol Honda): «E’ stato un crescendo in queste ultime gare ed è bello essere in pole nel gran premio di casa. La moto ha funzionato bene sin da venerdì e anch’io ho ritrovato un buon feeling. Questo pomeriggio non è stato facile, sono uscito con la gomma dura e non avevo ancora completato un giro, quando la moto mi ha sbalzato alla curva Honda. Nella caduta ho cercato di proteggere la gamba, che fortunatamente non ha preso colpi. Sono atterrato sull’anca sinistra, che adesso è indolenzita, ma domani spero di non aver problemi. La moto ha lavorato bene e abbiamo un buon passo gara, avrei voluto fare qualche altro piccolo cambiamento, ma abbiamo perso tempo a seguito della caduta. Desidero ringraziare tutti i fans che sono venuti qui nonostante il tempo. Domani spero di trasformare questa pole in vittoria».

GP AUSTRALIA (2ND DAY): STATEMENTS OF THE MOTOGP RIDERS

CASEY STONER (1st – 1’29″623 / Repsol Honda): «It’s been a good progression over these past few races and it’s great to get pole for my home grand prix. The bike has been good since Friday and I’m feeling comfortable on it again. It wasn’t an easy session this afternoon, we went out on a hard tyre and on my out lap, as I was peeling into the Honda turn, the bike decided to flip me. I tried to make sure I kept my leg out of the way as I came off, fortunately it didn’t get caught up. My left hip is hurting a little as I landed on it but hopefully we shouldn’t have any issues with it tomorrow. The bike feels pretty good for race pace, we would have liked to have done some more work in this afternoon’s session but we lost time after the crash. A big thanks to all the fans for coming out and putting up with this weather, hopefully we can turn this pole into a win tomorrow!»
